Read: The Housekeeper and The Professor

The Housekeeper and the Professor on The Sentimentalist This little gem was a gift from a friend whose recommendations never disappoint. The Housekeeper and The Professor by Yoko Ogawa is well crafted and truly unique. It’s the story of a brilliant mathematician who is injured in a car accident and left with a short term memory that lasts no longer than 70 minutes. The book explores the relationship he develops with a compassionate housekeeper who is forced to reintroduce herself to him each day as she arrives. A self-declared math geek back in the day – I loved how the author weaved intricate mathematical theories into the plot. The author writes often and in great detail about infinite numbers which pose an interesting juxtaposition to the professor’s truncated 70 minute memory. I read this little book in 2 nights and was left wanting more…
