Making Crayons

Making Crayons on The SentThis might go down in history as my younger daughter’s favorite craft project EVER. You see when she was little if left to her own devices she would peel and snap every crayon she got her hands on. After doing this crayon project I kind of understand the impulse.

When we moved into our new home we inherited most of the craft materials that they no longer wanted. Stacks of construction paper? Awesome. Old crayons, also awesome. Many of the crayons were in great shape but one small plastic bin full of crayons had seen a better day. Never one to waste crafting materials I got to Pinterest to see what we could do with them. Below is a tutorial on how to make your own big swirly-colored crayons. The whole process took 2 hours. It’s the perfect activity for a play date too now that we are back in school/play date season!

How to:

  1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees
  2. Peel crayons
  3. Snap each crayon in halves or thirds
  4. Place crayons in greased (I used Canola Oil) muffin cups
  5. Place in oven for 4-8 minutes or until crayons have melted
  6. Remove from oven and use toothpicks or wooden skewers to swirl/stir liquid
  7. Place in fridge for 10-20 minutes
  8. Remove from fridge, turn upside down, and pop out crayons
  9. Color and have fun!!!
