Dwell: Tree House

Treehouse on The Sentimentalist

Peter Behouth was a boy who loved a treehouse. So much so that when he grew up the former Greenpeace Executive Director bought the lot next to his home in Atlanta and earmarked three perfect trees to see his childhood dreams come to fruition. An avid environmentalist Behouth was thrilled to use the land without tearing down or disrupting any of the trees on the property. Mostly constructed of  spare lumber and old windows collected from junk yards and antique stores, the three part building consists of a living room (that comfortably seats 6), a bedroom (the bed rolls out onto a platform for better viewing of the tree canopy), and deck (complete with hammock, seating for 10, and a dart board). Behouth christened the 3 separate spaces “Mind”, “Body”, and “Spirit” and he says they each have personalities of their own. With no technological distractions from the outside world he says you enter “Mind” and know you are in a place to gather and discuss ideas. From there the options are limitless – reading, eating, drinking, relaxing. Hanging lights create a magical scene at night. The treehouse can be rented for $275 a night. I would so love to spend the weekend…
