Art: A View from Above

Tom Blachford on The Sentimentalist Sometimes from up close our world can look so scary. Jarring, fast-paced, and frenetic. It’s tough to see the fine details as car goes whizzing by and people shout when only inches away from each other. But then we step back a little, look from a distance, and get some perspective on what the picture looks like as a whole. That’s when we find serenity. I adore this work by Tom Blachford titled “Aerial Summer” in which the artist captures Melbourne,¬†Australia from above. The self taught 26 year old was gifted a session in a helicopter for his birthday. He snapped 1200 staggering images. Look, enjoy, and fade away into the hypnotic patterns of the world below. These are the kind of pictures that make me want to be a fish instead of a bird (if you know that common question)!
