Read: Where’d You Go Bernadette

As previously reported I have been on quite a run when it comes to reading great books. The last 4 I have read have left me inspired and excited about new literature. That being said the plots were very serious and often had me in tears. With the baby on the way I emailed a few friends asking for a recommendation for a book that was funny and light. At least three people responded and recommended I read Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. It did not disappoint. This book is funny and so cleverly written. You truly never see where this plot is headed but you enjoy every moment of this up and down ride told through the eyes of a brilliant and emotionally unbalanced mother, her wonky but equally intelligent Microsoft-guru husband, and their incredibly mature 15 year old daughter. The reader follows their story by way of narrative, old email correspondences, and FBI briefings. It’s a thoroughly entertaining look at what can  happen to urbanites who find themselves transported to the bucolic burbs. If you need a laugh it’s the perfect read to get you out of the winter doldrums!
