Why I Signed Up To Be A Bone Marrow Donor

Last weekend I headed back to my 20 year college reunion. I have to say it was a thrill being back on campus showing my husband and children my old stomping ground. But nothing made me happier than seeing two dear friends who have been battling cancer, both fighting harder and with more grace than you can imagine. I was blown away when my friend Bob Cusimano, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2016, updated me on why he chose to speak out at the DKMS event this year. At the event he was honored for his work in bringing attention to the importance of putting your information into the bone marrow donor pool, so that you might some day be able to help someone in need of a bone marrow transplant because of blood cancer or another rare blood disease.

This video about Bob and his fight says it all. Someone stepped up not once, but two times to save my friend’s life. Thank you donor. I just registered at the DKMS site, and I hope you will too.

DKMS is an international not for profit organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders by: creating awareness; recruiting bone marrow donors to provide a second chance at life; raising funds to match donor registration costs; supporting the improvement of therapies through research; and supporting patients from day one of their diagnoses.
