Spring Planting: The Butterfly Bush

IMG_1670

Few things gave me more joy last summer than watching our new gardens around the home we moved into bloom. As the summer months progressed we were thrilled to realize we have what is commonly referred to as a “Butterfly Bush” right beside the pool. Judging by the size (nearly 9 feet tall!) this bush has been growing for many years in its location. The botanical name of this plant is Buddleia Davidii and it thrives in sunshine and really any type of soil. We were mesmerized last year as we would often find 5-10 beautiful butterflies resting on and drinking nectar from the blooms on this bush in the late afternoon. They come in a variety of colors and are a great addition to any garden.
