Great Food: The Granola Bar

If you are looking for me around 8:30am after drop off on most school days, you’ll find me sipping a super hot almond milk latté at The Granola Bar on the top of Greenwich Avenue. I was clued into this spot a year ago, but have selfishly kept it to myself until now. It is sooooooo good. And don’t you dare go assuming that because this place is called The Granola Bar it is nothing more than nuts, toasted oats, and raisins. It’s actually a full service breakfast and lunch restaurant that makes a mean quinoa bowl, and divine smoothies. They also have some awesome sandwiches and breakfast burritos. And if you don’t have time for a meal you can zip through the take-out area for a salad or paleo muffin. They have wifi, their customer service is fantastic, and I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table on the weekend. It has quickly become our family’s go-to place for Sunday brunch. Get on over there soon. You won’t be disappointed.

Q&A with Dana and Julie, Founders of The Granola Bar:

What is The Granola Bar?
The Granola Bar is a breakfast & lunch oasis, a happy place at the intersection of healthy and indulgent. It’s a place of no judgements, and no food rules – just daily deliciousness!

What was your background in the food biz?
We started out as a home-made granola company – just selling our delicious granola where we could! While working together on OATS, we realized we wanted a place with fresh, delicious food – not fancy, but not a local diner either. The idea of The Granola Bar was born.

Where do you source your coffee from?
We source our incredible coffee from Toby’s Estate of Brooklyn and Rise Brewing Co who provide their delicious Nitro Cold Brew coffee in both of our locations.

What kind of food and drinks do you serve?
We serve a little bit of everything – healthy, delicious food that takes the guilt out of guilty pleasure! We truly believe there’s something for everyone on our menu, from avocado grilled cheese to our Buddha Bowl (warm quinoa, sautéed baby kale, avocado, portobello mushrooms, tomato, and a soft egg) to our delicious Nutella Latte or frozen hot chocolate, you’ll find something you love.

What are some of your top sellers?
Our avocado toast and avocado grilled cheese are definitely two of our most popular dishes, along with our Almond Chicken Salad Club and our Breakfast Burrito! Our loyal coffee drinkers our obsessed with our lattes and love that we serve RISE Cold Brew – it’s a must-have to start the day.

Is it kid friendly?
Yes! We accommodate everyone and have a kid friendly menu with classic menu items like our kid’s quesadilla or a kid’s yogurt parfait!

I am obsessed with your Greenwich location because the customer service is so good. How do you train and retain such great employees?
The Granola Bar is like a family – with our employees and with our customers. We pride ourselves, as a team, on providing great customer service and an enjoyable, customized experience for each and every customer and luckily we have found people who truly get that and spread our message and vibe perfectly.

Do you cater? or deliver?
We do both! We take orders for pick up and delivery daily and you can order from our full menu that we offer in stores! As for catering, we have a great new menu we’re offering for any type of event – whether you need a lunch for a corporate meeting or you’re having a bridal shower and need delicious snacks and light bites, we have you covered!

What’s next for The Granola Bar?
We’ve got a lot coming this year! We’ll be opening our first-ever To Go location in Stamford this spring, where we’ll be focusing on take-out, delivery and catering for all our Stamford locals! And then we’ll be opening The Granola Bar of Rye this summer, our first location in New York that we’re extremely excited about!…and a FOOD TRUCK!!!
